Isaih 41:10,explains how God will use His right hand to lift you up………….

Make this declaration;

Today,I will humble myself before God.

Todevil as an act of my willday I will resist the devil as an act of my will.

Today,I will witness the lattest wonder of the world,the devil fleeing from me!

THE MANIFESTATION OF THE BODY OF CHRIST

THE MANIFESTATION OF THE BODY OF CHRIST

  1. INTRODUCTION

Ref:1 Cor 12 : 4 -11

INTRODUCTION.

The Body of Christ,The church,is  clearly manifested through the manifestation of the working of the Holy Spirit because the church of Jesus Christ was born by the power of the Holy Spirit.So, the Church is a spiritual community.She is the true Israel which God the father intended to give birth to.

EXPOSITION.

Consider the following three facts about the Church of Jesus Christ;

  • There are different kinds of gifts but the same spirit.
  • There are different kinds of service but the same Lord
  •  There are different kinds of working but the same God works all of them in all men.

Now each one of the manifestation  of the Spirit is given to the common good.The manifestation of the Spirit in the church is through the gifts of the Holy Spirit which according to Apostle Paul are nine.These are;

  •  Message of wisdom
  •  Message of knowledge
  •  Faith
  •  Healing
  •  Miraculous power
  • Prophecy
  • Distinguishing between spirits
  • Speaking in different kinds of tongue
  •  Interpretation of tongues.

All these are the work of one and the same Spirit and He distributes them to each one just as He determines.

The Trinity in action to manifest the Church.

  • Gifts (spiritual) – this is by the Holy Spirit
  • Service –                this is by lord.
  • Working –             this is by God

A  .  Spiritual gifts by the Holy Spirit

These gifts are the manifestations of the Spirit given for the common good to all. These are;

i). Message of wisdom:

What is wisdom ?; James 3:13-18

  • It is shown through good life, by deeds done in the humility.
  • If you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your heart do not boast about it. Such  wisdom does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual and as the devil.
  • When you have envy and selfish ambition there you find disorder and envy evil practice.
  • But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all;
  • Pure
  • Peace loving
  • Considerate
  • Submissive
  • Full of mercy
  • Good fruits
  • Impartial
  • Sincere

There are two kinds of wisdom

i). Demonic / Earthly – harbors bitter envy and selfish ambition

  • This is of the devil

  • Manifests in disorder, envy and evil practices

ii). God’s wisdom

Is pure, peace loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy, good fruit, impartial and sincere.

Manifested through harvest of righteousness and peace.

The message of wisdom in Verse 8 II Corinthians 12 is a message which is pure, peaceful, considerate, submissive full of mercy, full of good fruits, impartial and sincere. (1 Corinthians 1: 24 b) this is the message of Christ! Declaration, I will speak with purity, peacefully, considerately, submisevely, mercifully, fruitfully, impartially and sincerely.

ii) The message of knowledge:

This is the message of Him.

Message of knowledge reveals Jesus. Philippians  3:7 – 11.  The desire to know and reveal Jesus over sides everything  else.

iii) . Faith.

iv) Gift of healings.

v) Miraculous powers.

vi) Prophesy.

vii) Distinguishing between spirits .

1 John 4: 3- 6

a).  Every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus, this is the Spirit of anti Christ.

b). Speaks from the words view point, the world listens those who do not listen to us (we from God) are from the world (the enemy).

viii) Speaking in tongues.

ix) Interpretation of tongues.

Summary of the gifts of the Spirit

  1. Word of wisdom.
  2. Word of knowledge.
  3. Faith.
  4. Healing.
  5. Miraculous power.
  6. Prophesy.
  7. Distinguishing between spirits (discernment).
  8. Speaking in tongues.
  9. Interpretation of tongues.

Declaration!

I will desire to operate in all the gifts of the Spirit. I will allow the Holy Spirit to manifest through me.

BDifferent kinds of Service by the Lord.

The true body of Christ will be manifested by the kind of service offered.

Service is two fold:

a). We serve one another

b). We serve the Lord

As we minister – to one another

  • and to the Lord – serve

Ref; 1 Corinthians 12:5

Ephesians 4 :11 – 16

Romans 12:3 – 8

The gift of service are given by the Lord (Jesus). Ephesians 4 : 8

When he ascended on high he led captives in his town and gave gifts to men, the gifts he gave where. Ephesians 4:11-16

  • Apostles
  • Prophets
  • Evangelists
  • Pastors
  • Teachers

So that body of Christ might be build up until we all reach unity.

a). In the faith

b). In the knowledge of the son of God

When we reach unity in faith and knowledge to the son of God we will;

  1. a) Become mature
  2. b) Attain to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Result of  becoming mature and attaining the whole measure of the fullness at Christ will be that;

a) We will no longer be infants. Tossed back and forth by the waves and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by cunning and craftiness of men.

b). We will speak the truth in love

c). We will grow inn all things up every supporting ligaments grows and builds it self up in love as each part does its work.

Romans 12:3 -8

Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought.

Think of yourself  with sober judgment in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.

Body has many parts and then do not do the same work, similarly in Christ we who are mercy.

For one body and each member belongs to all the others.

We have different gifts, according to the grace given us;

  1. Prophesying
  2. Serving.
  3. Teaching.
  4. Encouraging.
  5. Contributing to the needs of others.
  6. Leadership.
  7. Showing mercy.

Declaration

I will be equipped for the works of service! I will be build up towards unity in the faith and knowledge of the Lord!

I will mature and attain the whole measure as the fullness as Christ.

I will not be an infant

I will speak the truth

I will grow up in all things

 C). Working by God

Ref; John 6: 28 – 29, 35 – 59. Mark 16:20

What must we do to do to the works God requires?

The work of God is this to believe in the one he has sent.

Our fore fathers ate manna.

It s our heavenly father who gives us the true bread from heaven.

The bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives lives to the world.

The people said, from now on give us this bread”

Jesus declared,

I am the bread of life

He who comes to me will never go hungry

He who believes in me will never be thirsty.

All that the father gives to Jesus will come to Jesus.

Whoever comes to Jesus will never be driven away to he has come down from heaven not to do his own will but to do the will of him who sent him.

The will of God to Jesus is this;

a). He shall lose none of  all that the father has given him but raise them up at the last day.

b) Everyone who looks to the son and believes in him shall have eternal life and Jesus will raise him up at the last day.

They will be taught by God.

Everyone who listens to the father and learns from him comes to Jesus.

He who believes has everlasting life

Jesus is the bread of life.

Our fore fathers ate the mana in the desert yet they died.

Here is the bread that comes down from heaven which a man may eat and not die.

Jesus is the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats on this bread, he will forever, this bread is my fresh, which I will give for the life of the world.

Unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.

Whoever eats my flesh says Jesus, and drinks my blood has eternal life, and Jesus will raise him up at the last day.

The flesh of Jesus is the real food and his blood is the real drink.

Whoever eats the flesh of Jesus and drinks his blood will remain in Jesus and in him.

Jesus lives because of the father so the one who feeds on Jesus will live because of Jesus.

Explanation

What must we do?

You are a child of promise!

Ref;Gal;3;16-29.

Gal;4;1-7.

Introduction to the book of Galatians.

This epistle is entitled according to its first recipients,the Galatians in Roman province of Galatia..

Faith is the key theme in this epistle.Paul insists tat no human work can contribute to person’s right standing with God.This justifies the teaching about salvation as a gift of God’s grace.

One sentence summary to the book of Galatians is:

Sinners are justified and live out a godly life by trusting in Jesus Christ alone not by keeping the Law or by counting on good works.This letter was directed to the churches that Paul and Barnabas had planted on their first missionary journey;Derbe,Lystra,Iconium, and Pilsidian Antioch.This epistle was written around 52-55 AD.

Exposition;

I the text Gal;3;16-29. we learn that we are children of promise.

First, the promise was spoken to Abraham and his Seed.

The law introduced 430 years latter does not;

(i).Set aside the covenant previously established by God.

(ii).Do away with the promise

If the inheritance of the promise depends on the Law, then it no longer depends on promise.In other words,the inheritance was pegged on the promise.

God in His grace gave the inheritance to Abraham through the promise.In simple terms,The fulfillment of the promise begun with Abraham. However, after the law came there was a period of silence in regard to the inheritance of the promise.

The purpose of the Law was because of the transgression until the seed to whom he promise refereed had come.

The Law was put to effect by angels through a mediator.The Law is not opposed to the promise of God either.If a Law which could impact life would be given ,then righteousness would have come by the Law.But this did not happen.The law made sin more sinful. The whole world is a prisoner of sin so that what was promised being given by faith in Jesus Christ might be give to those who believe.This breaks the boundary between the Jews and the rest of the world.The Law had been given to the Jews as a schoolmaster.Before faith came ,we were held prisoner by the Law ,locked until faith should be revealed. The Law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith.Now that faith has come ,we are no longer under the supervision of the Law. You are all sons of God through faith in Jesus Christ,all who were baptized into Christ have been clothed with Christ.Here there is neither Jew nor Greek,Slave nor free, Male nor Female for you are one in Christ.

If you now belong to Christ,then  you are Abraham’s seed,and heirs according to the promise.

In the foulness of time;

God sent His son.

To do what ?

To redeem those under the Law.

For what purpose?

That we may receive the full rights of son-ship.

Now because we are sons,what is the benefit?What difference does it bring to your life?

God has sent the Spirit of His son in our hearts.

The Spirit calls out Abba Father.

We have been made heirs.Heirs of what? Heirs of the Kingdom of God which cannot be shaken!

Praise the Lord children of promise!………………

DISERNING OF SPIRITS.

Ref;1Corinthians;12;7-10.

Discerning of spirits is the ability to evaluate people,doctrine,and situations as to whether they are of God or of Satan.Discerning of spirits should not be confused with a critical spirit.The gift is a spiritual gift.Spirits al things are not discerned with the natural mind.

Ref;1Corithians 2:15.

Natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God.Things of the Spirit of God are foolishness unto him who is carnal.If you are carnally minded discernment is it yours.You cannot know the things of the Spirit in your catnality.Spiritual things are spiritually discerned.

The gift of discerning of spirits is limited to discerning of spirits.This gift serves the church by identifying people who would split the fellowship with wrong motives,doctrines,and attitudes.

Discerning of spirits is an important gift because the enemies we fight with are not visible to the human eye.The can be recognized by spiritual discernment.

Ref; Eph;6:12.

We wrestle not against flesh and blood,but against principalities,against powers,against the rulers of the darkness of this world,against spiritual wickedness in high places.

One of the strategies Satan uses is deception.This is why discernment is so important.

As we near the return of Jesus spirits of deception will increase.1Timothy;4;1

If you do not have the spirit of discernment ,you can rely on the word of God to be on the save side.

The word says ,test every spirit .

Ref;1john4:1-3.

Believe not every spirit.Test every spirit whether it is of God.Every spirit that does  not confess Jesus Christ to have come in the flesh is not of God.This is the spirit of the anti Christ.

Now we know which spirit is from God!Please discern every spirit with me!

THE EMBLEMS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

1Corithians 3;16.Rom;8;9.Heb;9;14.John;16;13.Heb;10;29.Rom;8;2.1peter;4:14.Eph1;17.Acts:1;4-5.Rom;1;4.Rom;8;15.

The titles and emblems of the Holy Spirit provide knowledge of His nature and functioning in the life of a beliver.Before we focus on the emblems of the Holy spirit let us first look at the titles of the Holy Spirit.

TITLES of the HOLY SPRIT.

A title is a phraise that describes and explains a person’s position and function.For example if a person is a gorvernor ,the title describes his function in the gorvernment.The titles of the Holy Spirit as revealed in the bible shows us His function and position.

The Holy Spirit in the bible is refered to as;

(i).The Spirit of God.(ref ;1Corinthians 3;16)

(ii).The Spirit of Christ.(ref;Rom;8;9)

(iii).The Spirit of Truth.(ref;John;16;13).

(iv).The Spirit of grace.(ref;Heb:10;29).

(v).The Spirit of life.(ref;Romans;8;2).

(vi).The Spirit of glory.(ref;1Peter 4:14).

(vii).The Spirit of wisdom and revelation.(ref;Ephesians;1;17).

(viii).The comforter.(ref;John14;26).

(ix).The Spirit of promise.(ref;Acts;1;4-5).

(x).The Spirit of Holiness (ref;Rom;1;4).

(xi).The Spirit of faith.(ref;II Cor.4;13).

(xii).The Spirit of adoption.(ref;Rom;8;15).

All those texts show twelve titles associeted with the Holy Spirit.They describe His function and position in the life of a believer.If you allow Him to work in your life unhindered you will experience most of theese functions of the Holy Spirit in your life if only you believe.

EMBLEMS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

An emblem is a symbol which has a special meaning.The Bible uses several emblems to represent the Holy Spirit.

(i).The Dove.(ref;John;1;32).

During Jesus baptism ,the Holy Spirit was revealed as a dove.This emblem of the Holy Spirit indicates approval,peace and purity.

(ii).Oil.(ref;Hebrews1;9.).

Oil indicates light ,healing,and anointing for service.

(iii).Water.(ref;Isaiah;44;3).

Water signifies the new life and cleansing from sin tha the Holy Spirit brings to the believer.

(iv).A seal.(ref;Ephesians:1;13).

A seal is a special mark indicating ownership and also means finished work or transaction.The Holy Spirit has sealed believers as belonging to God.

(v).Wind.(ref;Acts 2;1-2).

You can see the vissible effects of wind but you cannot see it with your natural eyes.In the natural world,wind has special functions.Theese reveal more truth about the Spirit as wind.

The wind separates chaff from wheat.In a beliver the Holy Spirit will purify the life of a believer.

Wind fans dying coals and sets them ablaze.The wind of the Holy Spirit “fans”God’s people into revival and makes them a flaming fire of ministry to the lost.

(vi).Fire.(ref;Exodus;3:2).

The fire signifys;

The presence of the Lord.

Approval of the Lord.

Protection and guidance.

Purifying.

Judgement.

BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Objective of this message;

At the end of this message, listeners will be able to;

  • Define baptize.
  • Identify three Scriptural references where it reveals what happened when people receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
  • Identify how to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
  • Explain the true evidence of Baptism in the Holy Spirit.
  • List guidelines for receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
  • Receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
  • List four main objections people sometimes raise to the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Key verse; (Acts ;1;8).

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

INTRODUCTION.

The bible speaks of four baptisms namely;

  • The baptism of suffering experienced by Jesus.
  • The water baptism performed by John the Baptist.
  • Christian Baptism in water.
  • Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Today I’m going to focus on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

DEFINITION;

The word baptize means to completely immerse in something.

PROMISE OF THE BAPTISM.

After the resurrection and prior to His return to heaven, Jesus gave important instructions to His followers; (Luke;24:49.)

I’m going to sent you what my father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.

The promise which Jesus referred was the Holy Spirit. They had to stay in the city until they where clothed with power from on high.They where not to wait for a day or two. It was until they received that which was promised!

(John;14; 16-18).

And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another counselor to be with you forever-the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor Knows Him, But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

Jesus told His disciples that;

  • He would ask His father to give them another counselor ( the Spirit of Truth) who would be with them forever.
  • The world cannot accept Him because it neither sees Him nor knows Him.
  • They knew the Spirit of truth for He lives with them and would be in them.
  • He would not leave them as orphans He would come to them.

This promise was not a new promise. The Gift of the Holy spirit  had been promised since Old Testament times;

(Joel;2;28)

And afterwards ,I will pour out my Spirit on all people .Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.

EVINDENCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

The Holy Spirit has many purposes in the life of a believer. One of the main purpose of the Holy Spirit however is to make the Christian a powerful witness for the Gospel;(Acts;1;8).

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

The true evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit was visible immediately in the life of the Apostle Peter .Before the Day of Pentecost he had fearfully denied that he knew Jesus. After his baptism in the Holy Spirit ,Peter stood and gave a powerful witness to the Gospel that resulted in the salvation of 3,000 people. It was the power of the Holy Spirit in the early Church that resulted in the spread of the Gospel throughout the world. The book of Acts is a record of this powerful witness which was evidence of baptism in the Holy Spirit.

BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT.

There are seven passages in the New Testament where the word “Baptize” is used in relation to the Holy Spirit. Four of these are the words of John the Baptist recorded in the Gospels;

  • Mathew 3;11. I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I’m not fit to carry .He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
  • Mark; 1;8. I baptize you with water but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.
  • Luke 3;16. John answered them all,” I baptize you with water. But one more powerful than I will come ,the thongs of whose sandals I’m not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the  Holy Spirit and with fire.
  • John 1;33. I would not have known Him, except that the one who sent me to baptize with water told me,” The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.”
  • Jesus also spoke of the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 1;5. For John baptized with Water ,but in a few days you will be  baptized with the Holy Spirit.

  • When Peter spoke of the events which took place in the home of Cornelius he quoted the words of Jesus;

Acts 11;16. Then I remembered what the Lord had said ;John baptized with water but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.

  • Paul also used the word “Baptize” in relation to the Holy Spirit;

1Corithians;12: 13. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body-whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free-and we were all given the one  Spirit to drink.

The use of the praise “ to baptize into” the Holy Spirit is the same as used to describe Christian baptism in water. In both cases baptism is an outward confirmation of inward spiritual experience.

The Holy Spirit was given during a time of Jewish observance called the Feast of Pentecost. For this reason , baptism in the Holy Spirit is called a “Pentecostal experience” and the time of the giving of the Spirit called “the Day of Pentecost”

The Holy Spirit came down from heaven and completely immersed (baptized) believers assembled in the upper room in Jerusalem. They had been waiting or tarrying for His coming as they had been commanded to do by Jesus. Peter said this experience was the fulfillment of God’s promise, “In the last days … I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh “This promise was given by Prophet Joel;

( Joel;2;28-29.)

Candidates of the out pouring are;

  • Male
  • Female

They would;

  • Dream dreams.
  • See visions.

God’s Spirit was to empower both servants men and women.

On the Day the Holy Spirit was given, Peter said;

Acts2;38-39.

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off-for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

Peter’s words revealed that the promise of the Holy Spirit was;

  • A personal promise; “Unto you” ( the Jewish people).
  • A Family promise; “Your Children”
  • A universal Promise; “To all that are a far off”

You are included in this promise!

THE PHYSICAL SIGN.

The Holy Spirit is invisible to the natural eyes. He was compared to wind by Jesus.

John;3 ;8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So is it with everyone born of the Spirit.

Although the wind is invisible, the effects it produces can be seen and heard. When the wind blows the dust rises from the ground, the trees all bend in the direction of the wind, leaves rustle  ,the waves of the sea roar, and clouds move across the sky. All these are physical sighs of the wind. So it is with the Holy Spirit. Even though He is invisible to the natural eyes, the effects which the Holy Spirit produces can be seen and heard.

There are three places in the New Testament where we are told what happened when people were baptized in the Holy Spirit;

(i).Day of Pentecost:

Acts 2;2-4.

  • Sound from heaven as of a mighty rushing wind.
  • Filled the room where they were gathering.
  • Cloven tongues like of fire appeared and sat upon each one of them.
  • They begun to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance and glorified God.

(ii).House of Cornelius:

Acts 10;44-46.

  • They spoke in other tongues.
  • They glorified God.

(iii). Converts at Ephesus.

Acts 19;6.

  • They spoke in other tongues.
  • They prophesied.

A common sign; The tongues.

Those who received the baptism of the Holy Spirit Spoke in other tongues. Other supernatural signs of the Holy Spirit are mentioned ,but none of these were evident on all these tree occasions.

Consider the table below and see what happened in the three places mentioned;

  Rushing wind. Visible tongues of fire. Prophesied. Spoke with other tongues.
Day of Pentecost.
House of Cornelius.
Converts at Ephesus.

The sign of “tongues” can be language known to man .This is what happened on the day of Pentecost;

(Acts 2;7-8.).

Tongues can also be a language not known to man .This is called unknown tongue.(1Corithians;14;2.)

Purposes for tongues;

The sign of tongues received in baptism in the Holy Spirit has many purposes I the lives of believers.

1 Corithians;14 gives us some of the purposes.

these are;

  • Prayer to God; Verse 2.
  • Self-edification; Building up yourself and increasing your spiritual knowledge. Verse 4.
  • When interpreted they edify the church; Verse 12-13.
  • Intercession; Verse 14( see also Romans 8;26-27.)
  • Sign to unbelievers; Verse 22.
  • Fulfillment of prophesy; Verse 21( see also Isaiah 28;11-12).
  • Praise; Verse 15,17.

Objections to the Holy Spirit.

(i).Every Christian has the Holy Spirit.

Although the New testament Christians  had believed in Jesus they had to wait in Jerusalem for the endowment of power from on high.lk;24;49

Acts ;1;5.

This promise was fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost. Acts2;4.

Although the early Apostles where Christians they had to wait until the Day of Pentecost.

NB; Christian  will not have the Holy Spirit until he receives Him as an act of ones will.

Another example is the people of Samaria. They believed and where baptized in water but had not received the Holy Spirit;Acts8;14-17.

(ii).Do all speak in tongues?

People who raise this objection usually use 1Corithians;1227-28.

Here Paul is talking about gift of speaking in other tongues not reception of the Holy Spirit.

(iii).Fear.

Some believers don’t seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit because they are afraid they will receive an experience that is not of God. But the Bible says; Ask and it shall be given…………..Mathew;7;7-11.

  • Emotional experience.

Receiving the Holy Spirit.

The following are guideline for receiving the Holy Spirit;

  • Repent and be baptized; Acts2;38.
  • Believe it is for you; Acts 239.
  • Desire Him; ( John 7;37-39)
  • Accept Him; He was released on the day of Pentecost .Acts ;2;38.

Galatians 3;2,5,14.)

  • Yield to God. Yield your tongue to God in praise and worship. You may begin with stammering lips, it is obey continue.Isaiah;28;11

Acts 2;4

  • Request prayers of others.

Key verse; (Acts ;1;8).
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
INTRODUCTION.
The bible speaks of four baptisms namely;
(i) The baptism of suffering experienced by Jesus.
(ii) The water baptism performed by John the Baptist.
(iii) Christian Baptism in water.
(i) Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Today I’m going to focus on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
DEFINITION;
Jesus told His disciples that;
• He would ask His father to give them another counselor ( the Spirit of Truth) who would be with them forever.
• The world cannot accept Him because it neither sees Him nor knows Him.
• They knew the Spirit of truth for He lives with them and would be in them.
• He would not leave them as orphans He would come to them.
This promise was not a new promise. The Gift of the Holy spirit had been promised since Old Testament times;

There are seven passages in the New Testament where the word “Baptize” is used in relation to the Holy Spirit. Four of these are the words of John the Baptist recorded in the Gospels;
• When Peter spoke of the events which took place in the home of Cornelius he quoted the words of Jesus;
Acts 11;16. Then I remembered what the Lord had said ;John baptized with water but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
• Paul also used the word “Baptize” in relation to the Holy Spirit;
The Holy Spirit came down from heaven and completely immersed (baptized) believers assembled in the upper room in Jerusalem. They had been waiting or tarrying for His coming as they had been commanded to do by Jesus. Peter said this experience was the fulfillment of God’s promise, “In the last days … I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh “This promise was given by Prophet Joel;
( Joel;2;28-29.)
Candidates of the out pouring are;
• Male
• Female
• Young.
• Old.
They would;
• Prophesy.
• Dream dreams.
• See visions.
God’s Spirit was to empower both servants men and women.
On the Day the Holy Spirit was given, Peter said;
Acts2;38-39.
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off-for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
Peter’s words revealed that the promise of the Holy Spirit was;
• A personal promise; “Unto you” ( the Jewish people).
There are three places in the New Testament where we are told what happened when people were baptized in the Holy Spirit;
Consider the table below and see what happened in the three places mentioned;

The sign of “tongues” can be language known to man .This is what happened on the day of Pentecost;
(Acts 2;7-8.).
Tongues can also be a language not known to man .This is called unknown tongue.(1Corithians;14;2.)
Purposes for tongues;
The sign of tongues received in baptism in the Holy Spirit has many purposes I the lives of believers.
1 Corithians;14 gives us some of the purposes.
these are;
• Prayer to God; Verse 2.
(iv) Emotional experience.
Receiving the Holy Spirit.
The following are guideline for receiving the Holy Spirit;

Now do you need the Holy Spirit?

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me!

Ref;Isaiah 61;1-4

Outline;

-The Spirit of the Lord is upon me.

-The Spirit of the Lord has anointed me.

The above two facts are so powerful.When I learned these liberating revelations my life was changed.The Lord has purposed in His fore knowledge to anoint those who dear believe Him for the anointing.This anointing is by  the Spirit of the Living God,The Holy Spirit.When the Holy Spirit is upon you,you get into a new dimension of anointing.Anointing is a divine en capability to do the works of God.You are anointed for service.You are anointed to;

(i) .Proclaim Good news to the poor.

(ii).Heal the brokenhearted.

(iii).Proclaim freedom to the captives.

(iv).Release the prisoners of darkness.

All the above things seem impossible naturally looking.But with the anointing,these are the things any believer should be doing.

Life in the Spirit,Victory is sure!

Ref;Joshua 6;1-27.

Outline;

-Jericho is tightly shut up.

-The Lord speaks to Joshua.

-Joshua obeys the Lords command.

-Jericho falls to the hands of  Joshua.

-Victory is acquired.

Introduction;

Life in the Spirit is life in the word of God.Jesus once said,the words I speak are Spirit.If you purpose as an act of your will to obey the word of God then you are on the right truck to live in the Spirit.Joshua is a good example in the Old testament of a man who knew if he was to live to the purpose of God,he had to learn to obey and carry out the Lords instructions.

Explanation.

Jericho was tightly shut up because its inhabitants feared the Israelites.

Jericho was one of the cities in the promised land which was supposed to belong to the Israelites but had the wrong occupants.

Joshua knew he needed Gods’ direction to overcome this fortified city.

The Lord speaks to Joshua and tells him;

-See, I have delivered Jericho to your hands along with its kings and its fighting men.

-March around the city once with all the armed men  and repeat for six days.

-Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams in front of the Ark.

-On the seventh day march around the city seven times with the priests blowing the trumpets.

-When you hear a long blast on the trumpets,have all the people give a loud shout then the wall of the city will collapse and the people will go up every man straight in.

The Lord gave very clear instructions to Joshua.

Joshua was quick to obey the Lord .

This guaranteed him victory.

The instruction from the lord begins by Joshua being told to see.

Victory will not come unless you see it from the beginning.

Then you will have to follow the lords’ instructions.

Shout the following statement;

(i).I will see the victory in advance.

(ii).I will pay attention to the Lords’ command.

(iii).I will act according to what the Lord says.

(iv).I am a victor in Jesus Name.
